Presentation: The presentation starts with the US guidelines and standards of Healthcare Facilities Design, then it discusses the typical environment-controlled spaces, such as operating room (operation theatre), infection isolation room, protective environments and critical-care room. It further discuses architectural considerations, temperature and humidity controls, ventilation requirements, air-handling systems, flow diagrams, pressurization, filtrations and UV treatment, as well as water-borne microbial contamination control, etc. Many design samples and photos are included.
Speaker: ASHRAE Distinguished Lecturer, Mr. Wei Sun; Mr. Sun received his BSME from University of Shanghai for Science and Technology in China in 1985, and was accepted as a MSME student in Shanghai Jiaotong University in China in 1987. In 1988 he was awarded with an academic scholarship from University of Kentucky in the United States and then received his MSAE degree from University of Kentucky in 1992. Since then Mr. Sun has been working in the US as a design and consulting engineer for 18 years in building mechanical systems design, HVAC&R consulting and research. He is a registered Professional Engineer in 12 states in the United States.
Main Presentation: This session is designed to help building owners, operators, and engineers perform on-site energy efficiency surveys with more confidence and accuracy. Specifically, this course is directed toward the on-site inspection and critical assessment of heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) systems; refrigeration systems; lighting systems; compressed air; and motor applications typically found in buildings and process facilities. Attendees will receive a qualitative understanding of design and operation considerations for common systems and will learn site survey techniques to help them gather the information needed to evaluate the costs and benefits of a variety of energy-efficiency improvements.
Speaker: ASHRAE Distinguished Lecturer, Hank Jackson, owner and principal of ETech Solutions, has provided technical training and consulting services in the energy efficiency marketplace since 1979. He holds a Bachelor of Aerospace Engineering (1974) and a Master of Science in Aerospace Engineering (1978), both from the Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, Georgia. Originally registered in Georgia, Mr. Jacksons currently practices in North Carolina. Mr. Jackson served as director of the Georgia Industrial Energy Extension Service program at the Georgia Institute of Technology prior to entering a private consulting practice. During a five year hiatus from consulting (1999 – 2005), he was department chair of Mechanical Engineering Technology at Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College in Asheville, North Carolina.
Topic:“Summary of NC Senate Bill 668 Requirements (High Efficient Buildings) and Energy Modeling per ASHRAE 90.1-2004 – Appendix G”

Presentation: Ginger Scoggins will enlighten us on State Senate Bill 668. This bill requires that new and renovated State Buildings over 20,000 sq. ft. be required to reduce energy consumption by 30% (new) and 20%(renovated) over the ASRHAE 90.1-2004 baseline building criteria per Appendix G requirements. This seminar will also discuss other requirements of the State Senate Bill. Ginger’s presentation will include commissioning, water reduction, and advance planning. In addition, Ginger will address Energy Modeling and Life Cycle Cost procedures that are required by the State for submission of a Senate Bill 668 compliant project. This will be followed by an open question session. We can guarantee increased knowledge of State Senate Bill 668 after attending this presentation.
Speaker: Ms.Ginger Scoggins, PE, LEED AP is the President of Engineered Designs, Inc., a full-service plumbing, HVAC, and electrical design firm in Raleigh. She is a licensed mechanical engineer with over 20 years of experience in the design and construction of a variety of building types throughout the State. She is a long-standing member of American Society of Heating, Refrigeration, and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) which works to promote a sustainable world. She has served in numerous positions and chaired several committees in the ASHRAE organization, as well as having presented technical sessions on sustainable design and energy modeling using ASHRAE Standard 90.1 Energy Standards for Buildings Except Low-Rise Residential Buildings. Her company was instrumental in achieving the first LEED-CI Platinum project in North Carolina and has been able to achieve Silver and Gold statuson several other projects. Ms. Scoggins now serves on the State of NC Energy Advisory Committee which was formed to provide an implementation path for the 2007 Session Senate Bill 668, requiring all major State project to perform 20-30% better than
ASHRAE 90.1 requirements.

Presentation: The EPA stated in its report to Congress “During the past five years,
increasing demand for computer resources has led to significant growth in the number
of data center servers, along with an estimated doubling in the energy used by these
servers and the power and cooling infrastructure that supports them.” In a typical
data center for every watt of energy used by computer equipment another watt is used
to cool it. In this presentation we will learn about 2008 ASHRAE Environmental
Guidelines for Datacom Equipment, and the ASHRAE Datacom Series, a series of eight
publications, that provides a comprehensive treatment of datacom cooling and related
subjects. We will learn about the metrics used to measure data center HVAC efficiency.
And we will see how HVAC energy used by a typical data center can be reduced by 80%.
The presentation will conclude with a tour the new NetApp Data Center.
This 125,000 sq. ft. facility has over 3,600,000 cfm of AHU capacity and a chilled
water system totaling 12,200 tons.
Speaker: Joe Miller: Joe joined NetApp in 2006 with 20 years of HVAC and control experience.
Shortly after arriving he was instrumental in developing a unique Patent Pending
data center cooling strategy for NetApp. As Manager of Facilities Operations,
Joe is also responsible for the day-to-day facilities operations of NetApp’s RTP site.
He was very active in the design, construction, and commissioning of the new data center
as well as the office facilities. The comfort cooling and building automation Joe designed
for the newest NetApp RTP office building is predicted to easily achieve an Energy Star Rating
for efficiency.
